Preparing for Confirmation

To Be Confirmed

1. You have been baptized (with water) in the name of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

2. You do publicly confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

3. You are walking in a path of discipleship; that is, you are actively striving to grow in the Christian faith.

4. You affirm the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed, and you know the Lord’s Prayer and the Ten Commandments. For centuries, these creeds have summarized the essentials of the universal Christian faith. Derived from the Greek 'credo,' meaning, 'I believe,' one of these creeds is professed each Sunday when the Body of Christ gathers to worship.

5. You believe the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired Word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation, and to be the final authority and unchangeable standard for Christian faith and life.

You can read the Service of Confirmation to see why the above needs to be true at your Confirmation.

Catechesis

Now for the part that requires some of your time, but is really interesting!

There are four Introduction to Anglicanism video sessions you need to have watched before your Confirmation, and a segment of one book read.

"To Be A Christian" is a question-and-answer style instruction guide (catechesis) of Christian belief and practice. It is thorough yet simple, and may clarify many things for you. Pastors in our church welcome conversation about any points which you have questions about.

Please read pages 19 - 114 in "To Be A Christian."

The pages following page 114 are rich with resources, prayers and encouraging support for the Anglican Way, but we are not requiring them for Confirmation.

If you prefer a hard-bound book to the PDF linked above, contact us and ask about borrowing one from the church. It is also available in Kindle format from Amazon.

Video Sessions

The Introduction to Anglicanism videos below are produced and owned by The Ridley Institute. They are available to watch for free on their website, but are embedded here for your convenience.

  • Watching Lectures 1, 5, 6 and 7 are essential for adult confirmation at The Vine.
  • Watching Lecture 8 would enlighten you immensely and make Pastor Owen happy.
  • Lectures 4 & 9 are extra credit and very insightful.
  • Lectures 2 & 3 are for those who love British history and all-things-monarchy.

The lectures vary in length from 46 - 63 minutes.

Tap the dropdown arrow on the left side of the first video to view the full video list if needed. To view videos in a larger window, select the fullscreen arrows at the bottom right of the video player.
